Brandi Denton Gatewood

Brandi Denton Gatewood, Esq.Brandi Denton Gatewood joined LoCoco & LoCoco, PLLC, as a Junior Partner in August 2016. Before joining the LoCoco & LoCoco team, Brandi owned the solo-practice firm of The Gatewood Law Firm, PLLC, in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. Brandi was born in Jackson, Mississippi, and raised in Forest, Mississippi. Following graduation from Forest High School, Brandi earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Mississippi College in 2004, a Master of Social Science from Mississippi College in 2006, and a Juris Doctorate from Mississippi College in 2010.

Brandi is licensed to practice law in Mississippi, and has been admitted to practice before the United States District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of Mississippi, the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the Supreme Court of the United States of America.

Following law school, Brandi served as a Judicial Clerk to Associate Justice James W. Kitchens of the Mississippi Supreme Court. Following her clerkship, she opened The Gatewood Law Firm, PLLC, in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. As a solo practitioner, Brandi represented a wide variety of clients, with a focus on personal injury litigation, including automobile collisions, premises liability, and workers compensation. She also represented people facing criminal charges, from misdemeanors to felonies, including indigent defendants. Brandi is also passionate about her appellate practice, and has represented appellants before the Mississippi Supreme Court, Court of Appeals of the State of Mississippi, the United States Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit, and the Supreme Court of the United States.

As a member of the LoCoco team, Brandi will continue to represent a wide variety of personal injury clients, including people injured in automobile wrecks, trucking collisions, wrongful death cases, defective products and liability claims, cases involving defective medical devices, Social Security Disability Insurance and Supplemental Security Income denials and appeals, Longshore and Workers’ Compensation injury claims, and Offshore, Maritime, and Jones Act claims. Brandi will continue representing appellants before the Mississippi Appellate Courts, the United States Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit, and the Supreme Court of the United States.
Brandi is a member of the American Bar Association, Mississippi Bar Association, Supreme Court of the United States Bar, American Association for Justice, Mississippi Association for Justice, and Mississippi Women Lawyers Association.

The American Association for Justice (AAJ) is a national organization that works to make sure that people who are injured by the negligence or misconduct of others have a fair shot at justice through the legal system; even when that means taking on the most powerful corporations and insurance companies. Being a member of AAJ means being a member of a nation-wide team that is fighting to preserve the rights of injured persons to seek justice through the courts. As an active member of the American Association for Justice, Brandi is member of the AAJ Board of Governors, Second Vice-Chair of the Women Trial Lawyers’ Caucus, Chair of the New Lawyers’ Division Law School Committee, member of the AAJ Law School Committee, member of the AAJ Diversity Committee, and a graduate of the AAJ Leadership Academy. Brandi is a recipient of the 2015-2016 New Lawyers’ Division Excellence Award for her steadfast dedication to AAJ and the New Lawyers’ Division.

Mississippi Association for Justice (MAJ), much like AAJ, is an organization comprised of attorneys dedicated to fighting for an injured person’s right to seek justice through the courts of Mississippi. Brandi is a member of the Executive Committee for the Mississippi Association for Justice, is a past Chair of the MAJ Women’s Caucus and New Lawyers’ Division, and has served for a number of years on the MAJ Board of Governors. Brandi was named the MAJ New Lawyer of the Year for 2015-2016, she received the 2014-2015 Woman of Achievement Award, she was recognized as a 2013 MAJ Rising Star, and was twice awarded the Beyond the Call Award for 2013 and 2012.
Brandi is a current member of the Mississippi Women Lawyer’ Association (MWLA) Board of Directors as Immediate Past President of MWLA, and she served as the 2015-2016 President of MWLA after serving three years on the Board of Directors.

Mississippi Volunteer Lawyers’ Project (MVLP) is an organization with the mission of providing legal assistance to Mississippi’s poor and less fortunate that are unable to pay for legal services that s/he needs. Lawyers from across the State of Mississippi selflessly give of their time to help Mississippians in need of legal services. MVLP has limited the focus of the services to domestic matters. In 2014, Brandi received on of MVLP’s Pro Bono Awards for the legal aid and assistance that she selflessly, and without pay, gave to many Mississippians in need, so that those individuals could move forward with getting their lives back on track.

Brandi and her husband, Benjamin Gatewood, M.D., married in September of 2009, and relocated to the beautiful Gulf Coast in 2011. Although they have no children, they are the proud parents of two fur babies; Louis, a two-year-old Labrador Retriever, and Trixie, a three-year-old pound kitty.
